Overview

TabZ is a Chrome extension that replaces your new tab page with a visual tab and bookmark manager. We are committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what data is accessed, how it is used, and what is never collected.

Data We Access

  • Browser tabs — read-only access to display your open tabs in the sidebar and save them to collections. Tab data never leaves your device unless you explicitly sync to Google Drive.
  • Chrome bookmarks — read and write access to store your collections as Chrome bookmarks and to support linked bookmark folders. All bookmark data is stored locally in your browser.
  • Chrome local storage — used to persist settings, preferences, and local drafts on your device.
  • Google account (optional) — accessed only when you sign in with Google. We request your name and profile picture for display purposes, and your email to identify your account.
  • Google Drive (optional) — when signed in, your collections are saved as a single JSON file (tabz-data.json) in your own Google Drive. We use the drive.file scope, which limits access to only files created by TabZ — we cannot read any other files in your Drive.

Data We Do NOT Collect

Google Drive Sync

Google Drive sync is entirely optional. If you choose to sign in:

Permissions Justification

  • tabs — display your open tabs in the sidebar and save them to collections.
  • storage — persist settings and local drafts in your browser.
  • bookmarks — store collections as Chrome bookmarks and sync linked bookmark folders.
  • identity — authenticate with Google OAuth for Drive sync (only when you initiate sign-in).

Children's Privacy

TabZ is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from children.

Changes to This Policy

If this policy changes materially, the updated version will be published at this URL with a revised date. Continued use of the extension after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
